When I was searching for a Reiki teacher, it was important to me to learn from someone who focused on the cultural origins of Reiki, something that often gets lost in modern Reiki teachings today. 

I found that in Marie, whose Japanese-American upbringing informs and provides a unique backdrop for the lessons of Reiki and its history.

Her training on Mount Shasta is so well-curated and beautiful, and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a more traditional Reiki experience.

In September of 2019, I was winding down and reflecting upon a beautifully full Summer, when I received Marie’s invitation to attend STAR NATION REIKI’S “Returning to the Shamanic and Buddhist Roots of Reiki” training retreat. I knew little about Reiki and also knew several women in my acquaintance circle who claimed to be Reiki practitioners.

I also knew that Marie was an impeccable practitioner of whatever she engaged in. She is completely intentional, focused and encompassing in what I have witnessed her undertaking.

I was intrigued and I committed myself to read the invitation thoroughly and to allow my “gut” to guide me about my next steps. Well, I awoke the next day and still felt a resounding inner “yes”, so I registered for the retreat.

I made 18 new friends and felt my sense of family expand. During and even after the Reiki training, I kept repeating these three words over and over again to describe my experience: ‘It’s so good!’

Reading them now, several months later, they still ring true.  It was wonderful to learn Reiki with Marie and the cohort she/they assembled; and to do it in nature and in the sacred lands and waterways of Mt. Shasta was awe-inspiring. The tools I learned have helped me through some tough times.  Reiki has brought me closer to loved ones and most importantly to myself.

Answering the call from Spirit and saying yes to Reiki level 1 & 2 training with Marie has been one of the best decisions I’ve made! I’m so grateful to the container that Marie created for us and held so beautifully. The space at Hestia, the food, the icy creek and soaking mineral tubs, and the folks who were called into the space all offered the right mix of energy.

I came into training feeling I had inklings of a spiritual gift, but had no container to explore it, and here I learned how to still my body & mind so that I can be a clear vessel for Reiki energy to flow.

learning Reiki with Marie has fundamentally changed my life. 

since my attunement in 2019, I have only grown deeper and deeper into the embodiment that Reiki energy awakens within me. the connection I have to my ancestors, guides, and deities has strengthened with a breadth and speed I didn’t know possible.

as a result of Reiki energy opening up my heart and spirit to receive love and healing, I am now able to share the medicine with others. by providing care to family, friends, and community workers, providing sessions virtually through the pandemic, at pop-up clinics with Freedom Community Clinic and with Marie’s STAR NATION REIKI, I am learning so much about myself, the individuals I work with, and their ancestors.
